---------------------------------------------------
CALL IN OR EMAIL YOUR GAME SCORES BY 6 PM SUNDAY EVENING: Phone: 619.851.6225, or 858.292.7510, or go to the SDABu Home Page to email your scores (preferable)
---------------------------------------------------
RAIN-OUT/GAME CANCELLATION INFORMATION: Phone: 858.536.1225, 619.851.6225, or check Blue Bulletins for updated information as well as the SDABL Schedule page.
---------------------------------------------------
GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME---NO EXCEPTIONS: (EVEN if a league official is called and tries to say otherwise. If you have a problem out on the field at any time with this issue, call the Emergency Game Day line and ask either Bek or Reggie to contact me. Or you may contact me yourself. Thanks.
---------------------------------------------------
TEAMS MAY START WITH 8 PLAYERS AND FINISH WITH 8 PLAYERS: WITH REFERENCE TO THE LATTER, dropping below the maximum number of hitters in the lineup at any given time (so long as there are at least 8) without being able to replace those batting "holes" DOES NOT constitute a forfeit. The "hole" simply becomes an out.
---------------------------------------------------
PICTURE ID FOR PLAYERS: If any player is challenged by an opposing manager, that player must produce a picture ID (or two non-photo pieces of identification, such as a bank book and credit card, for "Identity" challenges). ("Age" challenges require a photo ID with DOB, or the photo ID accompanied by a document that contains a DOB). If he can't, or refuses, he will NOT be allowed to play or continue playing if the game has already started. NO EXCEPTIONS. REMINDER: All players must be at least 18 years old to play in the SDABL. If a very young looking player produces a picture ID that does not contain a birth date, then do not allow the player to play or continue playing until he can produce proof of age. Again, No Exceptions.
If the challenged player does produce a picture ID that matches his face and the name on the lineup card, he will be allowed to play or continue playing, even if the opposing manager still insists that the player is not a legal member of that team's roster. That will be the league's problem to work out.
If the challenged player does produce a picture ID that matches his face, but does NOT match any name on the lineup card, then he will not be allowed to play or continue playing.
---------------------------------------------------
MADISON HIGH SCHOOL: DO NOT PARK OR ALLOW ANY PLAYERS TO PARK ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. NO EXCEPTIONS. All umpires and players must park on the street behind centerfield. If any players park, or attempt to park, on the school grounds, ask them to please move their cars. If they refuse, don't allow them to play until they move them. Better yet, don't start the game until the cars are moved.
Also, the area behind the fence along the first base dugout is OFF LIMITS. Again, no exceptions---not even to chase foul balls. Madison school and the high school coach are very serious about adhering to this policy and have NOT authorized anyone, including league officials who may have a key for the gate along that area, to allow access. PERIOD. Any future violation of this policy could result in the loss of Madison's field for adult baseball---including the use of TOBACCO products.
---------------------------------------------------
OCEANSIDE HIGH SCHOOL: Parking on campus is NO LONGER PERMITTED due to the construction at the school. Please park on Horne or Center Streets. Field access is through the pedestrian gate off Horne Street.
---------------------------------------------------
DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE DURING A BALL GAME! While cell phones have become an integral part of our everyday lives and can certainly help to solve problems on the spot, they can also be a total nuisance. Any umpire using one during a game is not only a nuisance, he is being totally unprofessional, ESPECIALLY if using the phone for personal use. At the very least, it implies that your focus is elsewhere and not on what you are getting paid to do. PLEASE KEEP THEM TURNED OFF during game time (which includes between innings). Here are the acceptable uses for cell phones during the course of a game:
The need to call the Emergency Game Day Phone (or the Chief Umpire) to resolve issues such as no bases, locked gates, missing teams, protests, emergencies, etc. That is, anything necessary to either prevent a game from starting or continuing.
SPECIAL NOTE 1: Do check your messages BETWEEN GAMES. Either Bek, Reggie, or myself might have left a message for you that pertains to a schedule change or some other issue that needs your attention. SINCE WE MAY CALL YOU AT ANY TIME, even while you are out on the field, don't answer phone if it is turned on. We will simply leave a message if needed.
SPECIAL NOTE 2: If you are in a situation where you might expect some kind of family emergency, such as a child who made need attention, pregnant wives "on the verge," or anything of this nature, then do one of the following:
Do not accept games for that day or during that period when the emergency may occur.
Find out the status of any family members previous to the start of any game. If you must leave, either call me to get a replacement, or leave immediately if there is no time. Your partner and the players will certainly understand.
CALLING TO GET FOOTBALL SCORES IS NOT AN EMERGENCY! (Don't laugh)
---------------------------------------------------
UNIVERSITY CITY HIGH SCHOOL: The high school coach has anchored an Astro-turf mat in front of the pitching mound. DO NOT REMOVE this mat for any reason.
DANA CENTER---The parking lot at Dana Center has shrunk even more. The only parking available in the lot is right next to the softball field where you first pull in. And since there is softball being played there, along with the adult baseball games, there will be a lot of "competition" for parking spots. Therefore, if you want (and expect to get) a parking spot in the lot, you better show up early. Otherwise, you'll be parking somewhere in the street.
"PRACTICE" GAMES: If the players present ask to have a league sanctioned "practice" game of 2 hours or five (5) innings (which ever comes first) as a result of one team having forfeited at the scheduled game time (and the minimum requirements are met authorizing such a game, as described in the SDABL rules), PAYMENT TO THE UMPIRES ON THE FIELD IS NOT REQUIRED in order to play. The umpires, if they don't get paid by virtue of the forfeit, will be compensated by the league.
---------------------------------------------------
MONTE VISTA --- You can no longer park in the "Youth" ball area just below the field. You must park in the high school parking lot and walk over to the field. Anybody who parks in the "youth" parking area will be subject to towing.
---------------------------------------------------
OTAY RANCH --- You must park in the lot outside the gate and walk about 5o yards to the field.
