  1. R2, no outs. B1 hits a hard line drive towards F4. R2, not tagging up, sprints to 3rd base. The ball bounces off F4's glove towards the shortstop, F6, who catches it before it hits the ground. He runs over to tag 2nd base to appeal that R2 failed to retouch. Meanwhile B1 makes 1st safely.

Legal catch. B1 is out and R2 is out.

Illegal catch. B1 and R2 are both safe.

B1 is out on the catch. R2 is safe at 3rd, since F4 had originally touched the ball, but did not end up actually catching it.

  2. Bases loaded, 1 out. B1 smashes a grounder towards the shortstop. R2, passing in front of F6, is hit by the batted ball, which is deflected into shallow left. As R1 rounds 2nd and heads for 3rd, F7 retrieves the ball and fires to F5, who tags out the sliding R1, but not before R3 crosses home plate. Meanwhile, B1 slides safely into 2nd base. Ruling?

Interference, delayed dead ball. When the play ends, R2 is called out for interference. R1 is out at 3rd. R3 scores, since he reached home before R1 was tagged.

Interference, dead ball. R2 is out. R1 must return to 2nd and B1 must return to 1st. R3 scores, since he was forced to run on the play.

  3. R1, no outs. 3-1 count on B1. R1 breaks for 2nd on the pitch, which ends up being ball 4. The catcher's instincts cause him to fire the ball to 2nd as R1 slides across the base and passed it. F6, who received the throw, reaches down and tags R1 before he can reacquire 2nd. Ruling?

Since B1 drew the walk, R1 is entitled to 2nd base without liability to be put out and is therefore ruled safe.

    R1 is called out.
