  1. R2 and R3, 2 outs. B1 smashes a drive into left field and the ball bounces over the fence for a ground rule double. Both R2 and R3 are awarded home and B1 awarded 2nd base. R3 touches the plate, then R2 touches the plate. As F7 jumps the fence to get the ball, the 3rd base coach hollers for R2 to come back and touch 3rd base since he had missed the bag on his way home. R2 retraces his steps by touching the plate, then going back to touch 3rd, then once again comes back to touch home. When play finally resumes, the 3rd baseman calls for the ball and appeals that R2 had missed 3rd on his first attempt. The umpire agrees. Ruling:

No out is awarded. R3 and R2 score, since R2 retraced his steps properly.

R2 is out and R3 scores.

R2 is out and R3 is not allowed to score.

R3 and R2 score, no out awarded since a legal appeal may not be made if the offensive team has drawing attention to any infraction by a runner.
